Notice of Entrance Examination for Diploma Programmes

The Iya Abubakar Institute of Information and Communication Technology (IAIICT), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, cordially invites all prospective candidates to the Entrance Examination for admission into its Diploma Programmes.

Details of the Examination:
Venue: CBT Center, Opposite Gymnasium, ABU Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
Date: Thursday, 19th December 2024.
Time: 8:00 AM (prompt).

Candidates are required to:
1. Arrive at the examination venue at least 30 minutes before the scheduled time.
2. Come with the following:
  - A copy of the application form (mandatory).
  - Writing materials and any other necessary documents as specified during the application process.

ABU Faculty of Education Matriculates new LVT students

The Faculty of Education, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, has jointly matriculated and oriented newly admitted Long Vocation Training (LVT) students for the 2023/2024 academic session.

The ceremony took today, Friday, 18th October, 2024, at the Red Theater of the Faculty, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.

Speaking at the occasion, Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala congratulated the students for being among the few that succeeded from the teeming number of candidates who applied for admission to the University.

Represented by the Dean, Students Affairs Division, Prof. Sahalu Junaidu, the Vice-Chancellor stated that by the process of of matriculation, the students have been formally accepted into the University rules and regulations, stressing that they have sworn in and affirmed that they will abide by the laws of the University and uphold it’s tradition.

Prof. Bala disclosed that University education is formally an exciting experience and the main purpose is to acquire knowledge and skills to prepare students for a useful life and become good citizens

The Vice-Chancellor noted that the University is an institution of great diversity in gender, ethnicity and religion and is the largest and most cosmopolitan of all Nigerian Universities.

He wished them a fruitful and joyous study and experience in the University.

Earlier in a welcome address, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. H. I Bayero said matriculation and orientation are primarily aimed at educating new student on the dos and don’ts of the University.

Prof. Bayero advised the students to be good ambassadors of the Faculty and shun all social vices like; examination practices, cultism and intake of hard drugs.

Speaking on the conduct of examination regulations, the Faculty of Education exam officer, Prof. Sani Mukhtar Bichi reiterated that without writing examinations, no student will graduate from the University, noting that all students are expected to write exams at the end of every contact session.

Prof. Bichi said discipline requires students to come to examination halls at the stipulated time with all writing materials and mode of identification.

The exam officer warned that external materials, electronic devices and exchange of question papers a serious examination offence punishable by expulsion and rustication respectively.

In a remark, Deputy Registrar Academic Affairs, Dr. Aliyu Dalha Kankia explained that any student absent from the University without approval shall be scored zero and the score will be used in the calculation of the Cumulative Grade Point Average, (CGPA).

Represented by Malam Umar Dalhatu, the Academic Secretary said no candidate shall be allowed into the examination hall 45 minutes after the commencement of the exam, except in special circumstances to the satisfactory of the chief invigilator and no candidate has finished and left the hall.

Cautioning the students on examination irregularities, the Chairman of the Examination Regularities and Irregularities Committee, (ERIC) of the Faculty, Prof. Adamu Aliyu emphasized that there are etiquettes laid down for examination malpractices.

Prof. Aliyu maintained that the minimum punishment meted on any student found wanting is to cancel his/ her next contact.

Highlighting some security tips, the Chief Security Officer, Malam Ashiru T. Zango said the major the duty of the Division is to protect lives and property, while safeguarding the laws of the University.

The Chief Security Officer said if a student does anything wrong, the students disciplinary committee is there to handle such cases.

He enjoined them to be wary of volunteers who could be potential fraudsters.

Other presentations at the event were, health tips from the University Health Services and tips on scholarship and social counseling from the Counseling and Human Development Center.

Highlights of the event were goodwill messages from Heads of Departments within the faculty and questions and answers session.
