A delegation from Ahmadu Bello University is currently attending the Digital Learning Week at UNESCO Headquarters in Paris, France.

The University is attending the event in its capacity as the IIOE Rotating Presidency Unit 2024. It assumed the presidency early this year.

The Digital Learning Week, which will last four days beginning from Monday, 2nd September, 2024, aims to promote multi-stakeholder cooperation towards a human-centered and climate-friendly design and use of artificial intelligence (AI) in education.

The event, which will be rounded off on Thursday, 5th September, 2024, also has a specific focus on exploring the interlinkages between digital transformation and greening education.

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof. Raymond B. Bako, is on the delegation to the Digital Learning Week.

Others are Director, IIOE Nigeria National Centre, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Mohammed Bashir Mu’azu; Head of Department, Computer Engineering, Prof. Emmanuel Adewale Adedokun, and Dr. Zaharaddeen Haruna, Department of Computer Engineering.

Ahmadu Bello University, International Institute of Online Education (IIOE), and UNESCO International Centre for Higher Education Innovation (UNESCO-ICHEI) had in July this year organised a national dialogue aimed at guiding the innovative use of artificial intelligence in Nigerian higher education.

The dialogue was part of an effort to empower policymakers, educators, learners and researchers to fully take advantage of artificial intelligence in teaching, learning, and research.

The event examined the potential benefits of incorporating AI technologies in teaching, learning, and research to improve innovation, global competitiveness and preparedness for the future workplace.

It also identified challenges related to the responsible, ethical and safe use of AI and cybersecurity concerns within the higher education landscape.
