ABU Counseling Centre, Public-Private Partnership Unit get new helmsmen

Prof Hadiza Tukur and Prof Baba Adama Kolo have been given new roles at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.

Hadiza is now the Director, Counseling and Human Development Centre while Kolo is the new Head, Public-Private Partnership Unit.

The two appointments were approved by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.

Effective from 7th October, 2025, each of the appointments is for a period of two years in the first instance subject to satisfactory performance.

A letter appointing Prof Hadiza Tukur as Director, Counseling and Human Development Centre, charged her to undertake a strategic reform of the centre’s activities.

Prof Hadiza is also expected to ensure more effective and impactful services that would enhance the quality of student life and productivity.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that the centre was being repositioned to play a more strategic role in supporting the holistic development of students.

Specifically, the mandates given to her include career development and guidance to prepare students for successful academic and professional journeys.

Other mandates are wellnes and support services, addressing mental health, emotional balance, and general well-being.

The mandates also encompass student support coordination, ensuring responsive, coordinated, and effective student services across the university.

In carrying out the assignment, she is expected to work closely with the Student Affairs Division, the University Medical Centre, the Directorate of Advancement and other relevant units whose activities interface with student welfare and development.

Appointing Prof Baba Adama Kolo as Head, Public-Private Partnership Unit, the Vice-Chancellor charged him to position the university PPP office as a central platform for mobilising investment and development partnerships.

The Vice-Chancellor explained that the university was exploring innovative ways of collaborating with private sector to drive and expand its investment portfolio.

He said the initiative aimed at supporting the university’s long-term development targets through sustainable partnerships that would enhance infrastructure, research, and enterprise growth.

The Vice-Chancellor also charged the new appointee to work closely with the ABU Estate Management Company, ABU Business School, and PPMS to ensure coherence and synergy in the delivery of the university’s PPP agenda.

Prof Ahmed expressed confidence that both appointees were equal to the new roles assigned to them given their experiences and leadership qualities.
