ABU commends team for winning TETFUND ‘Creative Writing Award’

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, has commended Team ABU for the “outstanding performance” at the TETFUND Research for Impact Initiative Workshop organised for selected beneficiary universities and polytechnics.

The workshop, which was the fourth in the series to be organised by TETFUND, was in line with the Fund’s commitment to the institutionalization of research and development as well as the promotion of impactful research in tertiary institutions for solving societal problems.

The team, christened ‘Team Affordable and Clean Energy’, comprised five science/technical-inclined staff from the University led by Dr. Abdulsalam Ismaila Galadima of the Department of Physics.

Other members of the team included Dr. Ramatu Idris Sha’aba, Department of Biological Sciences; Dr. James Enam Samson, Department of Pathology (Veterinary Medicine); Dr. Rashidatu Abdulazeez, Department of Zoology; and Dr. Abdullahi Bala Kunya, Department of Electrical Engineering.

Dr. Galadima won for the University the ‘R4i Creative Writing Award at the 11-day intensive practical-oriented workshop with Dr. Shaaba having the ‘Best Product Pitching’.

The workshop was in collaboration with the Innov8 Hub Tech, a leading centre of excellence in innovative research, idea development, and prototyping.

The initiative, according to TETFUND, was to instigate a “deeper interaction and cross-fertilisation of ideas, expertise and capabilities between researchers from universities and polytechnics with a view to grooming a dynamic generation of researchers, innovators, and investors within the academia”.

Receiving the team in his office upon return after the workshop, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, congratulated the team on the “wonderful outing” and described the feat as “highly commendable”.

Prof. Bala urged the team to work closely with the Directorate of Research and Innovation to realise the University’s vision on the Intellectual Property and Patent Transfer (IPPT) and Policy on Innovation and Entrepreneurship.

Earlier speaking, members of the team, who pledged to share their experience with other academic staff and students, expressed gratitude to the University Management for the “support, encouragement, and guidance”.

The Vice-Chancellor received the team alongside the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim; and the Director, Directorate of Research and Innovation, Prof. J.J. Maina.
