ABU Africa Centres of Excellence showcase activities, innovations at ACE Alliance launch in Abuja

Two Africa Centres of Excellence from Ahmadu Bello University were among the 20 Africa Centres of Excellence that showcased their activities, innovations, and achievements at the launch of ACE Alliance.

They are Africa Centre of Excellence on New Pedagogies in Engineering Education (ACENPEE) and Africa Centre of Excellence for Neglected Tropical Diseases and Forensic Biotechnology (ACENTDFB).

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako, represented the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, at the occasion.

Prof Bako is also a Centre Leader, ACENPEE. He led project team members of the centre to the event. Equally, the Centre Leader, ACENTDFB, Prof YKE Ibrahim, and his team of researchers participated.

ACE Alliance is a platform designed to celebrate remarkable achievements of the ACE project over the past 10 years.

More importantly, it is to foster continued collaboration among the Africa Centres of Excellence for sustainability.

The event took place at Idris Abdulkadir Auditorium, National Universities Commission, Abuja, Monday, 3rd November, 2025.

Also at the event, the ACE Compendium, titled ‘Key Achievements and Impacts of the Africa Centres of Excellence (ACE) Project in Nigeria’, was unveiled.

The ACE Alliance launch and the unveiling of the ACE Compendium were performed by the Hon Minister of Education, Dr Maruf Tunji Alausa.

The compendium comprises four volumes – ‘Summary of the Achievements of the Centres’, ‘Bibliography of Research Publication from the Nigerian ACEs’, ‘Directory of Researchers in Nigeria’s ACEs’, and ‘Directory of Equipment in Nigeria’s ACEs’.

A total of 17 federal, state, and private universities, where Africa Centres of Excellence are domiciled, participated in the landmark event.

The universities include Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria; African University of Science and Technology, Abuja; Bayero University, Kano; Benue State University, Makurdi; Covenant University, Ota; and Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta.

Others are Federal University of Technology, Owerri; Federal University of Technology, Minna; Lagos State University, Ojo; National Open University of Nigeria, Abuja; and Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife.

They also include Redeemer’s University, Ede; University of Benin, Edo State; University of Nigeria, Nsukka, University of Port Harcourt, Rivers State, University of Jos, Plateau State; and University of Lagos, Akoka.

Vice-Chancellors, Centre Leaders, project team members, and other stakeholders attended the event.
