ABU ACENPEE organises innovation week for students
The Africa Centre of Excellence on New Pedagogies in Engineering Education, (ACENPEE), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has organised an innovation week for undergraduate and postgraduate students of the University.
Speaking at the occasion, the Centre Director, Prof. Raymond Bako, congratulated participants for sharing their ideas with the centre and the University Community.
Prof. Bako, who is also the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, stated that the centre is for postgraduate students and ready to support them at all time.
He said the centre is delighted to provide a platform to showcase their innovation which will lead them to apply for other grants with guidance from the centre.
Earlier in a welcome address, the chairman of the Local Organising Committee, Prof. F.O. Anafi, disclosed that the innovation week will be an annual event organised by the centre for students to showcase their research.
Prof. Anafi said they have received about 50 applications from many departments like Mechanical Engineering, Water Resources and Environmental Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Glass and Silicate Engineering, Computer Engineering and Biochemistry, among others.
Also speaking, the Director, Directorate of Research and Innovation, Prof. Joy J. Maina, thanked the centre for inviting her directorate, stressing that their mandate is to push research innovations and ideas
Prof. Maina expressed happiness about young people having innovative ideas, and urged the judges to isolate researches that are patentable, so that her centre can work on them.
In goodwill message, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof. Abdullahi Dalhatu appreciated the centre for complementing the activities of the Faculties of Engineering and Education.
Prof. Dalhatu noted that it is a good effort for those who may have the idea but lack the platform to showcase their knowledge.
The Dean appealed for more collaborations between the centre and the Faculty of Education.
