ABU VC visits Federal Character Commission boss Hon. Hulayat Omidiran
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has led a management team on a visit to the Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran.
Hon. Omidiran is a distinguished alumna of Ahmadu Bello University, having graduated with a BSc Biochemistry in 1985.
Speaking at the commission in Abuja today, Thursday, 6th August, 2026, Prof Ahmed said they felt that the management should come and commend as well as encourage her for being saddled with such an important national task.
The university, according to him, was happy with the reform being carried out at the commission under her watch.
The Vice-Chancellor said as a distinguished ABU alumna she needed to be briefed on the progress so far made in the university.
Ahmed, who graduated same year (1985) with Hon. Omidiran, explained that the Department of Biochemistry where she studied still maintained the standard which it was known for.
As a sports enthusiast, the Vice-Chancellor informed her that the university had secured the hosting rights for the NUGA games billed for 2026.
He further told her that ABU still maintained its admission and recruitment policy as a cosmopolitan university.
The Vice-Chancellor stressed that the university had for two consecutive years won JAMB mega award for being a national institution because of its admission policy.
Hon. Omidiran was highly elated when Prof Ahmed came along with the Head of Biochemistry Department, Prof Salihu Aliyu and two most senior academics from the department- Prof Danladi A Ameh and Prof Sani Ibrahim.
Prof Ameh, who was Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, was a one time Ag. Vice-Chancellor of the university.
Responding, Hon. Hulayat Motunrayo Omidiran, expressed immense joy for the visit, saying seeing the Vice-Chancellor and members of his team from her alma mater really made her day.
She recalled with nostalgia how she secured admission into the Department of Biochemistry, the standard set for the department, and the wonderful mentorship received.
Hon. Omidiran also spoke on her passion for sports, saying that despite her love for sporting activities she successfully completed her academic programme.
The Vice-Chancellor presented souvenirs to Hon. Omidiran for being a distinguished alumna of Ahmadu Bello University.
The Registrar, Rabiu Samaila; the Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Auwalu Umar; and the Director, Sports, Dr Suleiman Usman Omeiza were on the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage.
Others were the University Liaison Officer in Abuja, Malam Haruna Ajo and the Deputy Registrar, Public Affairs, Mr. Ingino Danjuma Voh.
