C’ttee for take-off of new ABU Directorate of Environmental Management submits report
The Steering Committee for the take-off of the newly created Directorate of Environmental Management (DEM) at Ahmadu Bello University has submitted its report.
The committee, chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo, submitted the report to the University Management on Wednesday, 20th May, 2026.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, received the report on behalf of the management.
Submitting the report, the Chairman of the committee, Prof Bello Sabo, said they recommended potential sources of revenue for the take-off and sustenance of the new directorate.
Prof Sabo also said creation of organisational structure as well as proposed management board and membership for the directorate were some of the tasks undertaken by the committee.
Other tasks carried out by the committee included suggested reallocation of resources between University Health Services and DEM and proposed potential revenue resources.
In carrying out its assignment, the committee studied and evaluated members’ submissions in line with its assigned mandate as provided by the concept paper.
Members of the committee, according to him, were individually assigned task and their submissions were discussed, deliberated upon, and decisions were made collectively.
Prof Sabo, who disclosed that the committee met four times in carrying out its assignment, appreciated the Vice-Chancellor and the university management for identifying them to undertake the task.
Receiving the report, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, lauded the committee for turning in the report in good time.
Prof Ahmed said this was the first time the university management was receiving a committee report within a given timeframe.
He said it was not surprising given the caliber of members of the committee assigned to carry out the assignment.
Ahmed also said with the creation of the Directorate of Environmental Management (DEM) the university could take advantage of the carbon market to make money for the institution.
It would be recalled that the University Governing Council had at its 215th Regular Meeting approved the creation of Directorate of Environmental Management from University Health Services.
The Vice-Chancellor, accordingly, constituted the steering committee for the take-off of the directorate.
Essentially, the committee was charged with the responsibility of designing modalities for the take-off of the new directorate and make appropriate recommendations for its successful implementation.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako, and the Registrar, Rabiu Samaila, assisted the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the report.
Others present at the report submission were the Bursar, Malam Mohammed Aminu Bello Gurin, and the Ag. Chief Internal Auditor, Hajiya Fatima Ibrahim.
