ABU CILS commended for sustaining intellectual discourse on Islamic affairs
The Centre for Islamic Legal Studies (CILS), Ahmadu Bello University, has been commended for maintaining the intellectual discourse on topical issues that generally affect Islam.
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, made the commendation at the 3rd National Annual Symposium on the Life and Teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW) 2025.
Prof Ahmed, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof Bello Sabo, said CILS must be praised for keeping the tradition for which it was known.
The symposium, ‘Sharia Perspective on Peace and Security: Lessons from the Life and Teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW)’, was organised in Zaria by the centre on 28th December, 2025.
He recalled that CILS barely two months ago organised a conference for judges and khadis for which legal experts from both the judiciary and academia were invited to present papers on topical issues such as cripto currency, Islamic business transaction, and the role of the judiciary.
“It must be acknowledged that this time around the centre is organising another one on peace and security reflecting on the life and teachings of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (SAW)”, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor described the symposium’s theme as “insightful and topical”, given the current security challenges facing the country and the need to address them once and for all.
Prof Ahmed acknowledged with profound appreciation the commitment and special interest that His Highness, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, the Emir of Zazzau, continued to show interest in anything that affected education and enlightenment organised by Ahmadu Bello University.
He also recalled that the Emir came personally to attend the last ABU Alumni Association Annual Lecture despite his other tight engagements.
While praying for successful deliberations, the Vice-Chancellor requested that a copy of the communique after the symposium should be made available to the university management for study and necessary action.
The Director, Centre for Islamic Legal Studies (CILS), Dr Sa’ad Musa Abubakar, gave an address of welcome, while a keynote address was presented by Assistant Commissioner of Police Abdulrahman Idris, who is the Zaria Area Command, Nigeria Police.
His Highness, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, the Emir of Zazzau, also made a short remark at the occasion.
A total of three papers were presented by eminent scholars, namely Prof Ahmed Bello Dogarawa, Sheikh Abubakar Abdussalam, and Prof Umar Sani Fagge.
