AWTPN pledges ₦50,000 prize for URP students with highest CGPA in ABU
The Association of Women Town Planners of Nigeria (AWTPN) has pledged a cash prize of ₦50,000 for students with the highest CGPA at the Department of Urban and Regional Planning (URP), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
This is in addition to many textbooks relevant to URP studies the association had just donated to the department.
The National Chairperson of the Association, TPL Rekiyat A Fache, who made the pledge when she led AWTPN officials on a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, said the prize was for both male and female students.
The AWTPN chairperson stressed the significance of urban and regional planning profession and called for strong mentorship in the profession.
She said they were now making effort to ensure that all URP students on National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) were posted to the right place for them to practice with diligence.
TPL Rekiyat equally urged town planners to always make themselves available so as to be guided on the right path.
She told the Vice-Chancellor that she earlier had the opportunity at the URP department to interact with the students who were enlightened about the uniqueness of the profession.
Rekiyat described the Vice-Chancellor as one of her best mentors who shaped her career in URP practice.
In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, appreciated AWTPN officials for the visit and prayers.
Prof Ahmed, who assured them of his unwavering commitment towards the growth and development of the profession, pledged the university’s readiness to collaborate with the association for the benefits of both parties.
