Experts to speak at public lecture on brain health in ABU July 1

… As Neuroscience Society of Nigeria marks this year’s Brain Awareness Week

Distinguished academics, medical professionals, and advocates will make expert presentations on brain health at a public lecture billed to hold at Ahmadu Bello University on Tuesday, 1st July, 2025.

The lecture, put together by the Neuroscience Society of Nigeria (NSN), Ahmadu Bello University Chapter, is to be held from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm at the College of Postgraduate Studies Auditorium, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria

It is part of the activities marking the Brain Awareness Week 2025.

“Brain on Burnout: The Impact of Environmental Stressors, Substance Use, and Sleep Deprivation”, is the theme for this year’s Brain Awareness Week.

The lecture is also part of a broader global campaign coordinated by the Dana Foundation and International Brain Research Organisation (IBRO) aimed at promoting public engagement and brain health education.

A flyer highlighting the activities lined up for the Brain Awareness Week 2025 released by the President, Neuroscience Society of Nigeria, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Chapter, Prof N M Danjuma, said the Medical Director, Federal Neuropsychiatric Hospital, Barnawa, Kaduna, Prof Aisha Yusha’u Armaya’u, will chair the occasion.

The Director General, Kaduna State Bureau for Substance Abuse Prevention and Treatment, Mr. Ike Joseph, will be the special guest of honour while Hajiya Habiba Mohammed, Director, Centre for Girls’ Education, is to be a guest of honour.

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, will be the chief host and is expected to declare the occasion open.

Other activities lined up for this year’s Brain Awareness Week include Brain Bee competition, exhibition, Women in Neuroscience Event, and Radio Broadcast.
