US Embassy officials visit ABU

Officials from the US Embassy in Abuja have visited Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria for on the spot assessment to discuss setting up of American Space in the institution.

ABU has been one of the most consistent beneficiary institutions of the Fulbright scholarships.

Acting Cultural Affairs Officer United State Embassy, Abuja, Mr. Peter Burba, who led the team on a courtesy call on the Vice-Chancellor in Zaria, said they were in search of a space to provide resources for both students and staff’s use to complement the University’s academic pursuits.

The resources, according to Mr. Burba, are both conventional and e-resources for a resource centre where e-resource and conventional resources will be provided.

Responding, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, described the visit as an important one given its purpose. Prof. Bala was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim.

He assured the team of the University’s readiness to cooperate with them on this important issue and promised that the University would do all it could to ensure full utilisation of the resource centre including its maintenance.

Those, who accompanied the Acting Cultural Affairs Officer of the US Embassy included Prof. Adele Garkida, Fulbright Scholar; Aonroana Daniel Oklu, American Spaces Specialist; Prof. Rasheedah Liman, Fulbright Scholar; Rhoda Adesilu, Second Media Manager, US Embassy; and Fatima Umar, Co-ordinator, US Embassy, Abuja.

They also included Hannatu J. Sadiq, Alumni Coordinator, US Embassy; and Susan Dauda, Press and Media Coordinator, US Embassy, Abuja.

Principal Officers of the University who assisted the Vice-Chancellor in receiving the team were the Registrar, Malam Rabiu Samaila; Bursar, M.B. Gurin represented by Deputy Bursar, Malam Garba Shehu; Ag. University Librarian, Dr. Abdulhamid L. Gambo; Director, Physical Planning and Municipal Services, Arc. Suleiman Mohammed; and the Special Assistant to the Vice-Chancellor, Malam Muhammed Auwal Yusuf.
