Prof J E Onyibe heads c’ttee for ABU Environmental Management Directorate take-off
Prof Johnson E Onyibe will lead the implementation committee for the take-off of the new Directorate of Environmental Management at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
Onyibe works at the National Agricultural Extension Research and Liaison Services (NAERLS), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The committee was raised following the submission to University Management of the report on the establishment of the Directorate and the subsequent approval of the proposal by the University Governing Council.
The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, approved the constitution of the seven-member committee.
The committee is expected to work closely with relevant university units and stakeholders to develop a practical implementation framework for the effective operationalisation of the Directorate.
It is also mandated to ensure that the Directorate is established not merely as an administrative structure, but as a strategic university wide platform for environmental management, climate action, research, innovation, compliance and sustainability.
The university is confident that Prof Onyibe would provide the intellectual and strategic leadership required to ensure that the Directorate takes off on a strong, innovative, and sustainable footing.
Other members of the committee include Prof Yakubu Obadaki Yusuf, Department of Geography and Environmental Management and Idris Isa, Dean of Regional and Urban Planning.
They also include Gidado Usman, Department of Architecture; Dr Tanimu Yahuza, Department of Botany; Dr Shefa’atu Shehu, Department of Community Medicine; and Adam Dauda from Registry who will double as Secretary of the committee.
