New executives for ABU Postgraduate Representatives Council elected, inaugurated
The Students Affairs Division of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has inaugurated new executives for the Postgraduate Representatives Council (PRC) for the 2024/2025 academic session who emerged after their election today.
Their inauguration took place at the Assembly Hall, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria, today (Monday, 16th December, 2024).
Speaking at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, pointed out that a number of contestants were disqualified due to their inability to meet up with some of the requirements needed for the election.
Represented by the Dean, Students Affairs Division, Prof. Junaidu B Sahalu, the Vice-Chancellor enjoined the new executives to be united in supporting the management to run the affairs of the University.
Prof. Bala reiterated that the University Management had no preferred candidates and the election was conducted strictly in adherence to the rules governing the conduct of students elections in the University.
The Vice-Chancellor called on the new executives to come together as one body to help in the development of the University.
He expressed the University Management’s commitment to supporting the student leaders as they assume leadership of the association for the next one year.
He commended the electoral committee led by the Deputy Dean, Dr. Muhammad Hashim Suleiman, for staging a unique and standard election.
In his speech, the newly elected President of the Postgraduate Representatives Council, Comrade Abdullahi Kusogi Abdullahi, noted that leadership is not a title but an opportunity for one to make a difference.
Abdullahi said his administration will organise skills acquisition trainings for postgraduate students, which will focus on learning statistical analysis like the usage of SPSS and ANOVA, among others.
He also said the council would be holding quarterly congress to hear the grievances of postgraduate students and address areas of pressing needs.
In a vote of thanks, the Director, Counseling and Human Development Centre, Dr. Sa’adatu Muhammad Makarfi, thanked the Vice-Chancellor and and the Dean, Students Affairs Division for setting up the committee and providing all that were needed for the success of the election.
Dr. Makarfi urged the students leaders to work together towards the success of the new student leadership.
