Local govt. dept. organises talk shop for students
The Department of Local Government and Development Studies, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has organised a Student Talk Shop for 400 Level and 300 Level students with the theme “Social Mobilisation as Strategies for Sustainable Development”.
The programme, which took place at the Kongo Campus of the University on Tuesday, 27th August, 2024, was well attended by the students and staff of the Department.
In his remark, the Convener, Dr. Abdulhamidu Abdullahi, said that the department’s core value is to produce graduating students that are employable globally with soft skills that are relevant in the 21st Century.
To achieve that, 400 Level students carry a core course on strategies for sustainable development while 300 Level students take an elective course on social mobilisation.
Dr. Abdullahi explained that the nature of their course is centered on contemporary issues which are expected to demonstrate their knowledge, skills, collaboration and to even invite experts to shed more light on the issues at stake.
Dr. Umar Dahiru, Head of the Department of Local Government and Development Studies, who was represented by Dr. Yakubu Usman, expressed appreciation to the Course Coordinator and the entire Lectures for their commitment and encouragement to the students.
The 400 Level and 300 Level students of the department presented a drama depicting the sub-theme of the talk shop.
Short presentations were also made by Dr. Zainab Yusuf of the Department of Psychology, Kaduna State University, who spoke on the dangers of youth restiveness and gender equality.
Malam Yusuf Idris Amoke, Special Assistant to the Kaduna State Governor on Climate Change, spoke on authoritative climate change and the dangers of flooding in the state, while Malama Saratu Samaila talked on youth restiveness and gender equality and the need for more empathy for the people with disability.
