FRCN Kaduna shaped cultural identity of northern Nigeria – ABU Vice-Chancellor

The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has described the Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kaduna as a voice that shaped the cultural, social, and political identity of Northern Nigeria.

Prof Ahmed spoke at the official launching of a book, titled “Rediyo Nigeria Na Kaduna: Abin Alfaharin Yan Arewa”. The book was authored by a staff of Ahmadu Bello University, Malam Garba Abubakar Abdulkarim Kumo.

Prof Ahmed was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor Administration, Prof Bello Sabo.

The Vice-Chancellor congratulated the author and expressed his support for the laudable intellectual contribution.

Prof Ahmed noted that the book would go a long way in preserving the history, tradition and culture of the Radio Nigeria, Kaduna.

He said as far as ABU is concerned, Radio Nigeria Kaduna is not merely a broadcasting station, it is a living institution.

Prof Ahmed was also delighted that one of the university staff had taken the time to document the history of the radio station.

He stressed that such an enduring legacy is something that the institution must celebrate wholeheartedly.

The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that the book would serve as an invaluable resource and reference material for scholars, historians, media practitioners, and all those who cherish the heritage of the northern region.

In a remark, the author of the book, Garba Abubakar Abdulkarim Kumo, said the idea of writing the book was conceived about 20 years ago when he was working with FRCN Kaduna.

Kumo, now a Deputy Registrar at Ahmadu Bello University, also said the manuscript was subjected to thorough scrutiny before publishing.

According to him, he had also written books on social vices and how to change the attitudes of northern youths.

Kumo thanked the Vice-Chancellor, the University Management and all invited guests for making the book launch a success and wished them journey mercies back to their respective destinations.

In a goodwill message, Emir of Zazzau, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, congratulated the author for making an attempt to preserve one of the legacies of the late Sir Ahmadu Bello.

The Emir, who was represented by Wazirin Zazzau, Khadi Mohammed Inuwa Aminu, MON, urged other scholars to emulate the author.
