









ASUU awards scholarship to 22 ABU indigent students
Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria Chapter, has awarded scholarships to 22 students worth 4, 400, 000 Naira.
The ceremony, which took place at the Yusufu Bala Usman Hall Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria, was the second of its kind.
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University Prof. Kabiru Bala, commended the initiative of the union calling the scholarship award a noble objective.
Represented by the Dean, Students Affairs Division, Prof. Sahalu Junaidu, the Vice-Chancellor expressed joy that what the University Management is doing in terms of scholarship for students with special needs and foreign students is being complimented by ASUU.
He advised the awardees not to take the gesture for granted by working towards getting the best results.
In a remark, Deputy Vice-Chancellor Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi praised ASUU for being the leading union with the interest of society at heart.
He pointed out that in a time where academic staff are grappling with low income due to economic challenges the union put the societal needs ahead of their personal needs by assisting indigent students.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor called on the students to reciprocate the kind gesture in the future.
In a welcome address, the Chairman, ASUU, ABU Chapter, Comrade Haruna M. Jibril, commended the union for agreeing to increase the value of the scholarship from two million Naira last year to N4.4 million. He congratulated the beneficiaries and urged ASUU to continue with the gesture.
Representatives of the beneficiaries expressed their heartfelt gratitude for ASUU’s support in their academic pursuits. They thanked the union for finding them worthy of the award.
