The Team ABU-1, comprising three undergraduate students from Computer Engineering and Computer Science Departments of Ahmadu Bello University, will represent Nigeria at the regional finals slated to take place from February to March, 2024.

This followed the team’s victory at the just-concluded 2023-2024 Huawei ICT Innovation Competition Track National Finals in a re-run against Federal University of Technology, Minna (FUTMinna) held on 2nd February, 2024.

The ABU team, consisting of Sufiyan Ibrahim (500L), Department of Computer Engineering; Hadiza Muhammad (300L), Department of Computer Science; and Abdulqadir Bayero (500L), Department of Computer Engineering, scored higher upon successful presentation of a device for the protection of tomatoes and maize against crop diseases.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, congratulated the team on the great feat and prayed for a better outing in the regional finals which may either be virtually or physically.

Prof. Bala equally commended the Faculty Adviser for the team, Prof. M.B. Mu’azu and other staff from the two Departments (Computer Engineering and Computer Science) for their unwavering efforts towards the success of the team at the ICT Competition.

In his remarks on the team’s victory, Prof. Mu’azu expressed confidence that the team will eventually emerge victorious at the regional finals.
