ABU’s Life Sciences Faculty cornerstone of academic excellence, says VC
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Kabiru Bala, has described the institution’s Faculty of Life Sciences as the cornerstone of academic excellence.
Prof Bala spoke at the Faculty’s End of Year Luncheon held at the Assembly Hall, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria, today (Thursday, 19th December, 2024)
The Vice-Chancellor was ably represented at the occasion by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi.
Bala said coming together
to celebrate achievements, innovations and excellence should always be encouraged in an academic environment.
He commended the Dean of the Faculty, Prof. Maryam Aminu, for seeing it befitting to recognise that people who have excelled should be motivated.
The Vice-Chancellor noted that the gesture would inspire others to also achieve the same milestone in the coming years.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof. Maryam Aminu, disclosed that one of the Faculty’s greatest accomplishments in 2024 was the submission of its results to the Senate Standing Committee and the subsequent approval by the Senate.
Prof. Aminu maintained that the achievement was a testament to the dedication and cooperation of the Faculty members.
With this, according to her, the graduating students of the Faculty are now officially on the graduating list for the upcoming convocation of the University scheduled for 25th January, 2025.
Prof. Aminu expressed her heartfelt appreciation to all the Faculty members for their unwavering dedication and teamwork in the course of their duties.
The Dean also thanked all examinations officers both at the Faculty and Departmental levels for their exceptional commitment and attention to details.
She said they had taken time to recognise and honor individuals whose contributions have made significant impact on the Faculty.
In a remark, the Head, Department of Botany, Prof. Ramat E. Aliyu, attributed the successes and achievements of the Department to the support they have been enjoying from the Faculty.
Ramat said the Department had numerous achievements in 2024, and is looking forward to recording more in 2025.
Also speaking, the Head, Department of Zoology, Prof. E. Kogi, said the Department had championed researches in areas of need, which led to collaborations with Yobe State University.
Prof. Kogi said based on that, one of the researchers, Dr. Rasheeda AbdulAzeez, was appointed Deputy Director, Linkages, in that University and she is now away in overseas for a postdoctoral programme.
In a goodwill message, the Dean, Faculty of Environmental Design, Prof. Abubakar Abdullahi, congratulated the Dean for celebrating her staff.
Prof. Abdullahi noted that staff need to be motivated at all times to discharge their duties efficiently.
In another goodwill message, a former Deputy Vice-Chancellor Academic, Prof. Danladi Amodu Ameh, enjoined the younger staff of the Faculty to emulate examples from the elderly ones.
Prof. Ameh prayed for a a more fruitful and prosperous growth and development of the Faculty in 2025.
