ABU wins ‘Best AI or AI-related Programme’ award
. At 2025 AI Awareness Day in Higher Education in Nigeria
Ahmadu Bello University has won the ‘Best AI or AI-related Programme (University)’ award at the 2025 AI Awareness Day in Higher Education in Nigeria.
The day was celebrated virtually today (Monday, 17th February, 2025).
The University clinched the award on the strength of its B.Eng Computer Engineering (Artificial Intelligence Option).
Also, the north’s premier university secured 2nd place for its excellence and impact in shaping AI policies within higher education.
ABU got the recognition on account that the entries submitted by its Department of Computer Engineering and the IIOE Nigeria National Centre domiciled at the institution stood out in excellence.
The Chairman, Awards Selection Committee, 2025 AI Awareness Day in Higher Education, Prof Nasiru Maiturare, said the event featured four prestigious awards.
Prof Maiturare listed the awards as follows: Best Institutional AI Policy in Higher Education, Best AI Researcher in Higher Education, Best AI-related Programme, and Best AI Application for Enhancing Teaching and Learning.
Maiturare, who conveyed the cheering news in a notification for the award to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Kabiru Bala, congratulated the institution on remarkable feat.
He also said the organisers of the 2025 AI Awareness Day in Higher Education in Nigeria and its National Coordinator, Prof Peter Okebukola, appreciated ABU’s dedication to advancing AI in higher education.
