ABU rejoices with Ex-Military Governor of old Kano State, Col. (Dr.) Sani Bello
…As he marks 81st birthday

Ahmadu Bello University has felicitated with His Excellency, Col. (Dr.) Sani Bello, the former Military Governor of old Kano State, as he marked his 81st birthday.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, on behalf of all staff and students of the institution, presented a plaque to the elder statesman at his Kaduna residence today (Monday, 1st January, 2024), wishing him a happy birthday.

Bala, who was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, described the former military governor as a community leader who has continued to impact positively on the lives of many.

The plaque the University presented as birthday present said:

“This is to say how blessed we are to be part of your life, as you celebrate your 81st birthday.

“May all the goodness that life has to offer continue to be yours. Happy Birthday!”

The Deputy Vice-Chancellor was in company of the Director, Distance Learning Centre, Prof. Muhammad Ibrahim Sule; and Director, Directorate of University Advancement and International Education, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu.

It would be recalled that the former military governor, who is now Chairman of the Mainstream Energy Solutions, was conferred with Honorary Doctorate Degree by Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria at the institution’s 42nd/Diamond Jubilee Convocation last year.

The University awarded him the Doctor of Science (D.Sc) degree for establishing, when he was the military governor of old Kano State, the two famous Science Secondary Schools in Dawakin Tofa and Dawakin Kudu, whose products have continued to make positive impact nationally and globally.

He also established in his native town of Kontagora in Niger State Mustapha Comprehensive School and Sani Bello Vocational Training Centre as a philanthropic gesture to his community. The centre has produced over 3,000 youths with specialised skills among whom 418 are people with special needs.

Through Sani Bello Foundation the elder statesman has continued to provide free medical outreach to more than 7,000 beneficiaries and over 5,000 scholarships to indigent students in public universities.
