ABU Microfinance Bank balance sheet is expanding rapidly – Board Chair
The balance sheet of Ahmadu Bello University Microfinance Bank Nigeria Limited expanded rapidly this year as its total assets virtually doubled, growing from N6.25 billion in 2024 to N12.31 billion in 2025.
Chairman, Board of Directors for the bank, Prof Adamu Ahmed, made this known during the bank’s 8th Annual General Meeting that was held at Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, ABU, Zaria, on Saturday, 26th September, 2026.
The bank’s financial report for the year 2025 was presented at the annual general meeting.
Ahmed, who is the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, said the growth was driven almost entirely by its current assets, which jumped 100.65% to hit N12.11 billion.
The chairman also said the board chose a liquidity-approach to protect shareholders investments from macroeconomic shocks, as well as pushed cash and bank balances up by 150.04% to N10.72 billion.
He stated that cash now accounts for 88.50% of the bank’s entire asset profile, giving an exceptional 102.95% liquidity coverage ratio against customer deposits.
“This completely insulates the bank from sudden deposit run risks”, he further said.
Prof Ahmed explained that the 2025 audited financial statements proved that the bank hit its core targets.
“We grew our deposits aggressively, sustained our earnings, and built an incredibly solid capital cushion”, he stressed.
The board chair also said the bank intentionally pulled back on credit extensions, saying net loans and advances were cut by 29.21%, dropping from N1.65 billion down to N1.17 billion.
Speaking on net equity buffer and stability, the board chair said total equity and reserves closed stable at N1.46 billion, up by 13.77% year-on-year.
He said the board recommended a dividend of 0.055 kobo per ordinary share, amounting to a total payout of N29.7 million.
According to him, this is a clear improvement from 2024, when no dividend was paid.
On the bank’s strategic priorities for 2026, the chairman disclosed that the bank would safely deploy its cash reserves into high-yielding interest instruments.
He said the bank also intended to cautiously re-engage MSME credit growth using its updated digital credit scoring filters, in addition to expanding its digital agency banking footprints to drive long-term shareholder returns.
