The ENACTUS Team of Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria has launched three groundbreaking products under its Palmpel Industries, a social enterprise birthed from a transformative experience.

The products launch took place at Yusufu Bala Usman Hall, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria at the weekend.

Speaking at the occasion, Emir of Zazzau, Ambassador Ahmad Nuhu Bamalli, commended the team for its dedication to the ABU community and for developing the youths to be creative and pursuing self reliance.

Ambassador Bamalli, who was the chief launcher at the event, launched the products with sum of N2.25 million.

Other dignitaries followed suits by launching the products with different amounts.

The team’s journey began when their bus broke down, after becoming champions at the 2023 National Competition, in the middle of nowhere, forcing the team to seek refuge in the Ido-Ani community in Ondo State.

Witnessing the challenges faced by the community where diesel served as a daily body oil because disease carrying insect such as sand-fly, a vector of leishmaniasis and mosquito, a vector of plasmodium that causes malaria were the constant threat to lives with no hope for a solution from anywhere.

Unknown to the people in this community, petroleum jelly is potentially linked to be carcinogenic as reported by International Agency for Research on Cancer (IARC) and classified as group one carcinogens.

The team decided to create solutions that change the lives of the people in the community which in turn gave birth to Palmpel Industries out of a desire to address the needs of underserved communities.

The team’s experiences in Ido-Ani community led to the development of three innovative products that are transforming lives. First is the Palmpel body cream, a non-petroleum jelly, non-toxic and chemical free body cream that serves as a natural remedy and offers deep hydration, nourishment, and protection for the skin.

Made from plant extracts, the team created a formula that accelerates healing and promotes healthy skin without irritation.

The second product which is palmpel insect repellant cream has a dual- action formula that provides relief from sand-fly and mosquito bites, creating a barrier against insects while moisturizing the skin.

This product is particularly significant in combating diseases like leishmaniasis and malaria through bites prevention. The insect repellant last for 4 hours and above.

And lastly, the third product which is the Palmpel Hair cream which promotes robust hair growth and protects against dandruff, scalp eczema, ringworm, and other scalp ailments.

The ENACTUS ABU team, mentored for over 20 years by their Faculty Advisor, Prof. M.K. Aliyu, mni, has been the largest and most decorated team in Nigeria making waves on both local and global stages.

The team has grown to be a household name in Ahmadu Bello University and other targeted communities around the country by creating products in addition to the Pampel Products like its Eco-friendly Shoe Polish, Tompa Tomato powder that address the real needs of the communities and improving the livelihoods.
