ABU, Tanmiya Education Foundation organise conference in honor of Sheikh Ahmad Maqari Saidu
The Department of Arts and Social Science Education, Ahmadu Bello University in collaboration with Tanmiya Education Foundation has organised a national conference in honor of Sheikh Ahmad Maqari Saidu Zaria.
The Conference with the theme; “Sheikh Ahmad Maqari Saidu Zaria: Icon of Educational and Social Reform” took place at the CBN Centre of Economics and Finance, Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.
Vice-Chancellor Ahmadu Bello University Prof. Kabiru Bala, called for the compilation of the intellectual works of Sheikh Maqari for students of knowledge and preservation of his works.
He commended the organisers for inviting scholars from different walks of life.
Earlier in a welcome address, the Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof H.I Bayero, said the conference was apt as the writings, researches and literary works of Sheikh Maqari are worthy of reflection to bring society back on track.
He called on participants to listen to deliberations on the intellectual works of Sheikh Maqari as they mirror social and educational challenges.
In a keynote address, Prof. Mustafa Gwadabe stated that it is not surprising for the celebrant to be called an Icon due to his contributions to knowledge, stressing that he has done a lot for his immediate community, state, the nation and outside the country.
He explained that the Shiekh has established Qur’an memorization schools, played vital roles in peace dialogue and is also a prolific writer, poet in both Hausa and Arabic.
The event was attended by traditional rulers, erudite Islamic scholars, students of knowledge, friends and family of the celebrant.
