Ahmadu Bello University LL.B Class of 1978 today (Wednesday, 23rd October, 2024) presented a solar system to the University Management to service theatre halls and staff offices at the Faculty of Law.

The facility, which was built at the cost of N11 million, comprised the installation of a 10KVA inverter with 6.6KW solar panels and 30KW lithium batteries backup package.

Presenting the project to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, at a brief but colourful ceremony, the Deputy President of Ahmadu Bello University LL.B Class of 1978, Prof. Auwalu Hamisu Yadudu, explained that members of the class made various generous contributions to fund and execute the project within a very short time.

“On behalf of all our members, we wish to acknowledge our huge indebtedness to the Faculty of Law, ABU, Zaria from whose fountain we all owe our modest accomplishments in life.

“It is in deep gratitude and appreciation of such indebtedness that we make this token contribution to give back something in kind to the institution.

“By this token gesture of goodwill, we hope to alleviate the hardship encountered due to recurrent power failure, by students currently enrolled at the Faculty by creating an enabling and conducive environment for learning”, he said.

The distinguished legal luminary also said that the class contribution towards the realisation of the project was a call to duty and in discharge of a civic responsibility within their means.

Prof. Yadudu recalled with nostalgia that they started their LL.B Year 1 Class with 129 students in October, 1975.

Sadly, he also said, the class lost 58 members, one of whom was Justice Tanimu Zailani, the former Chief Judge of Kaduna State.

He expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, who joined the class at various sessions of the activities they held during their last reunion and for being on hand to commission the project.

The class also thanked the Dean of the Faculty of Law and his team, who were on hand to facilitate matters. They also lauded Malam Hamisu Abubakar of Shoppers Care Enterprises, who carried out the job with diligence and professionalism and on time.

Commissioning the project at the Faculty of Law, Kongo Campus, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, ably represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, expressed the institution’s immense gratitude to the Class for the gesture.

The Vice-Chancellor also said that the project was coming at a time when power had been a “very big challenge to the University”, urging that other classes of students should emulate them to further develop the institution.

A goodwill message of the President, ABU Alumni Association Worldwide, Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora, was delivered by the Chairman of Zaria Chapter of the Association, Dr. Suleiman Balarabe, saying that its alumni are working in tandem with the University Management for the progress of the institution.
