ABU DSS graduates students
… as the school holds speech & prize giving day

The Demonstration Secondary School, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria graduated its 2024 set of students during its speech and prize giving day which was held today (Saturday, 5th October, 2024) at the school premises at Main Campus, Samaru, Zaria.

The Vice-Chancellor Ahmadu Bello university Prof Kabiru Bala, ably represented by the Deputy Dean, Faculty of Education, Prof Abdullahi Dalhatu,
called on the students to adhere to the advice of their teachers and parents in order to excel exceptionally. He commended the school for keeping its set standard even in the caliber of teachers employed.

In a remark, the Chairman of the Occasion, who is the Dean, Students Affairs, Prof Sahalu Junaidu, congratulated the graduating students on their successful completion of secondary education while praying for them to benefit humanity. He urged them to be good ambassadors of the school and Ahmadu Bello University as a whole.

In an address of welcome, the Vice-Principal, Congo Campus, Malam Aminu Muhammad Sulaiman, welcomed parents, teachers and students for gracing the occasion and prayed for everyone’s safe return to their various destinations.

The Guest Speaker, Director Institute of Education, Prof Abubakar Jumare, spoke on the dilemma of secondary school education.

He remembered with fond memories how secondary schools were knowledge and skill development centers filled with discipline, respect, sharing and teamwork.

He decried the current condition of secondary schools that is characterized by bullying, examinations malpractice and mass failures.

Prof. Jumare called for a collective action in order to save secondary schools from further deterioration by government action, parents uprightness and teachers commitment to the profession.

He urged the society in general to change social structures by encouraging dignity and shun the glorification of unattested wealth.

Also speaking, the Principal, Demonstration Secondary School, Prof Abubakar Ismaila Shika, disclosed that 89 candidates scored 200 and above in the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examinations, 10 scored 300 and above with the overall best student scoring 352.

He praised the students for passing both WAEC and NECO without succumbing to pressures of examination malpractice and other corrupt examination practices.

The principal thanked all invited guests and the University Management for their unwavering support towards the success of the school.

The graduating Head Boy and Head Girl in their farewell speeches both appreciated the management and teachers for shaping and moulding their life’s during their six years stay in the school and promised to be good ambassadors of the school and the University in general.

The event was attended by dignitaries from within and outside the University.
