ABU don says agriculture key to nation building
The Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, Prof Maryam Mukhtar Aminu, has stressed the importance of agriculture, saying that it still remains the backbone of a nation building.
Prof. Maryam, who spoke in her capacity as Chairperson of the Local Organising Committee for the 17th Annual General Assembly of Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association, stressed that finding innovative solutions was crucial to addressing the pressing
challenges of food insecurity and economic hardship.
The don made the remarks in an address of welcome at the Pre-Annual General Assembly Lecture, ‘Hunger and Economic Hardship: A Call to Return to Our Roots and Embrace Innovative Agricultural Solutions’, held at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria at the weekend.
Prof Maryam, who is also the National Welfare Director of the alumni association, reminded of the power of knowledge, collaboration, and shared responsibility to address the nation’s challenges.
She encouraged all participants to use the insights shared in shaping the future of Nigeria and ensure a prosperous tomorrow.
Prof. Maryam appreciated the guest speaker, Senator Aliyu Sabi Abdullahi, for delivering a thought-provoking and inspiring lecture that challenged everyone to have a rethink of Nigeria’s approaches to agriculture and rural development.
The Chairperson expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabiru Bala, and the University Management for their unwavering support towards the success of the Pre-AGA lecture.
She also thanked all alumni and invited guests who came from far and near to grace the occasion.
