ABU scholars honoured at 2026 NYA Annual International Conference
Ahmadu Bello University scholars have been recognised for research excellence, fellowship, keadership and emerging scholarship.
The milestone was recorded at the Annual International Conference and General Assembly of the Nigerian Young Academy (NYA) held at the Lagos State University, Ojo, Lagos State.
The conference brought together outstanding young scholars and researchers from across Nigeria to celebrate excellence in research, scholarship, leadership and service to the nation.
Representing Ahmadu Bello University, Dr Nuraddeen Nasiru Garba of the Department of Physics and Dr Zaharaddeen Nasiru Garba of the Department of Chemistry successfully completed their tenure as members of the Nigerian Young Academy and were formally recognised and decorated as Fellows of the Academy.
In another significant achievement, Dr Abubakar Shitu of the Department of Mechanical Engineering was inducted as a new member of NYA, further strengthening ABU’s representation within the prestigious community of emerging scholars.
Adding further distinction to the University’s representation, Dr Idris Nasiru Abdullahi of the Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH) was also honoured with the prestigious Prof Friday Okonfua National Young Researcher’s Prize in Health Sciences, accompanied with a cash award of ₦100,000.
The award was in recognition of Abdullahi’s outstanding contribution to research in the Health Sciences.
The occasion also highlighted the leadership contribution of Dr Nuraddeen Nasiru Garba, who served as the Chairman of the 2026 Induction and Exit Committee of the Academy.
In that capacity, he provided leadership in coordinating the induction of new members and the exit and recognition of members completing their tenure.
The recognition of two ABU scholars as Fellows, the induction of a new Member, and the national research prize awarded to an ABU scholar collectively demonstrated the University’s strong presence and growing influence within Nigeria’s research and academic community.
Ahmadu Bello University Management congratulated Dr Nuraddeen Nasiru Garba, Dr Zaharaddeen Nasiru Garba, Dr Abubakar Shitu and Dr Idris Nasiru Abdullahi on these remarkable achievements and recognitions.
The University celebrated their contributions to research excellence, academic leadership, innovation and national development and wished them continued success in their scholarly endeavours.
