ABU receives JAMB certificate of recognition for its leadership in developing AI-powered learning aids
Ahmadu Bello University has received a certificate of recognition for its leadership in the development and deployment of AI-powered learning aids.
The certificate is also in recognition of the university’s ongoing efforts towards establishing an international centre for AI-driven assistive learning technology in West Africa.
The certificate was awarded to the institution by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) through JAMB Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG).
Similarly, the university received another JAMB certificate of recognition as one of the institutions with the highest admission of blind candidates in 2025.
It received the two certificates at the National Engagement on Inclusive Higher Education and Artificial Intelligence held at the National Universities Commission (NUC) in Abuja on Wednesday, 1st July, 2026.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Academic, Prof Raymond B Bako, received the certificates on behalf of the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.
JAMB Registrar, Prof Is-haq Oloyede, presented the awards. He was supported by Chairman, JEOG, Prof Peter A. Okebukola and Deputy Chairman I, JEOG, Prof Muhammad Yahuza Bello.
The event saw the presentation of three different categories of JAMB certificates of recognition by the JAMB Registrar.
They included top 10 institutions with highest admission of candidates with disabilities in 2025; top three candidates with disabilities achieving highest UTME scores in 2025; and three outstanding institutions for AI-inclusive campus provisions.
A manual for exceptionally brilliant underage students admitted for the 2025/2026 in Nigerian universities written by Prof Peter A Okebukola was unveiled at the occasion.
The national engagement, ‘Bridging Equity Gaps: Artificial Intelligence and Inclusive Higher Education in Nigeria’, was attended by a number of key stakeholders in education.
The Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi; and Registrar, Rabiu Samaila, attended the one-day event.
Others included former Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Ibrahim Garba; Director, DAIE and member JEOG, Prof M I Umar-Buratai; JEOG Jos Centre Coordinator, Prof Muhammad Nasiru Maiturare; and Director, ABU Distance Learning Centre, Prof M B Muazu.
They also included the Director, Public Affairs Directorate, Auwalu Umar; the University Director of Sports, Dr Suleiman Usman Omeiza; and ABU Admissions Officer, Mohammed Aminu Garba.
