VC appreciates ABU retirees for meritorious service
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has expressed the institution’s profound appreciation to the six retiring staff of the Department of Zoology for their meritorious service.
Prof Ahmed spoke at a sendforth ceremony organised by the department in honor of the retiring staff.
He was represented by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof Sunusi Aliyu Rafindadi.
The Vice-Chancellor described the celebration of the six staff as “well deserved”, as their contributions to the development of the university could not be measured.
According to him, the retired staff made the Department of Zoology excel amongst its peers.
The Vice-Chancellor commended them for lending their intellectual footprints which went beyond the university.
He urged other units to emulate the department in appreciating and celebrating their staff for the services and commitment towards their progress.
Chairman of the occasion, Prof C.E Mbah, congratulated the retirees for a successful career.
He thanked them for adding value to the university and for mentoring and impacting a large number of students.
In his remarks, the Dean, Faculty of Life Sciences, Prof Maryam Aminu, said the celebrants had shaped the academic life of a lot of generations.
Prof Maryam was represented by the Deputy Dean, Prof M.A Musa.
She said the Faculty appreciated the commitment and contributions of the retirees towards teaching, research and community engagement.
The Dean wished the retirees a peaceful and fulfilling retirement life.
In an address of welcome, the Head, Department of Zoology, Prof S.A Luka, expressed gratitude to God for sparing their lives to serve the university this far.
She said their years of service, scholarship and mentorship had shaped the department to what it is today.
She thanked both the academic and technical staff for training students in the best way possible and upholding their laboratories.
Prof Luka wished them the best in their new chapter.
The celebrated staff are Prof I.H Nok, Prof T.O.L Aken’Ova, Prof Augustine U Ezealor, Prof S.J Oniye, Mrs. R.A Lasisi and Mr M.S Wularikan.
