ABU acknowledges roles by Mainstream Energy Solutions, AMA-Med for success of 45th Convocation Ceremony

Ahmadu Bello University has acknowledged with profound appreciation the key roles played by Mainstream Energy Solutions and AMA Medical Manufacturing Industries towards the success of its 45th convocation ceremonies.

The Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, specially thanked the companies for their tremendous contributions towards the success of the events.

He deeply appreciated their contributions during his speech at the Pre-Convocation Lecture held on Friday, 31st January, 2026.

Specifically, Prof Ahmed thanked the Mainstream Energy Solutions for upgrading Abdullahi Mahadi Conference Centre to standard and for many other interventions that would follow.

The Vice-Chancellor equally appreciated AMA Medical Manufacturing Industries for facilitating and hosting the pre-convocation lecturer and for sponsoring the public lecture by Rt. Rev. & Rt. Hon. Justin Welby, GCVO.

Ahmed, who described the two firms as “co-sponsors” of both the public and pre-convocation lectures, stressed that the university could not thank them enough for the gesture.

He also said the university would continue to value the partnership with them and would remain grateful for their commitment to promoting dialogue and peaceful engagement.

The Vice-Chancellor said ABU was honoured to host the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, GCON, an accomplished public servant.

Okonjo-Iweala’s leadership at WTO, according to him, resonated strongly with the values the university had long upheld.

He also explained that her presence at Ahmadu Bello University was both an inspiration to its students and reaffirmation of the capacity of Africans to shape, lead, and reform global institutions.

Prof Ahmed said a pre-convocation lecture provides a platform for rigorous engagement between scholarship and policy, between national priorities and global realities, and between generations of leaders.

The Vice-Chancellor equally appreciated Rt. Rev. and Rt. Hon. Justin Welby, GCVO, former Archbishop of Canterbury, for accepting the university’s invitation to come and deliver the public lecture.

Prof Ahmed also thanked the UK archbishop for adjusting his flight to attend both the pre-convocation lecture and the convocation ceremony.

The Vice-Chancellor further said Justin Welby’s presence in ABU was a powerful affirmation of the enduring role of moral leadership, dialogue, and faith-inspired engagement in addressing the challenges of the time.

He stressed that the university took pride in having the pre-convocation lecture chaired by His Excellency, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo, GCFR, Nigeria’s former President.

Obasanjo was ably represented by the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Ahmadu Bello University Governing Council, Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR.

Prof Ahmed also stated that Obasanjo’s lifelong commitment to national service, African solidarity, and global peace would continue to inspire ABU and the continent at large.

Equally, the Vice-Chancellor expressed gratitude to His Majesty, the Chancellor, Igwe Alfred Nnaemeka Ugochukwu Achebe, CFR, the Obi of Onitsha, for his support, commitment, and prayers.

He further acknowledged with profound appreciation the unwavering support of the Pro-Chancellor and Chairman of Council, Mahmud Yayale Ahmed, CFR, towards enhancing the institution’s growth and development.

The Vice-Chancellor finally appreciated Council, Senate, staff, students, alumni, parents, partners, and friends of the university for their immense support.
