Gov Yusuf committed to supporting projects capable of reviving Kano’s industrial capacities – ABU Vice-Chancellor
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has profoundly appreciated Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf of Kano State for his strong commitment to supporting projects and programmes with clear potential to catalyze the revival of Kano’s industrial capacities.
This was contained in a letter of appreciation to the governor for his presence at the ABU’s 45th Convocation Ceremony and for his generous pledge of N50 million in support of the institution’s Science and Technology Incubation Park.
The ABU Science and Technology Incubation Park is being designed and implemented with a strong regional development lens.
The Park will prioritize innovation, technology transfer, enterprise development, and industrial linkages that could directly support eventually Kano’s industrialization agenda under Governor Yusuf’s administration.
Prof Ahmed also said Governor Yusuf’s participation at the event added immense value and significance to the occasion.
The ceremony also witnessed the laying of the foundation stone of the incubation park by the Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), Dr Ngozi Okonja-Iweala.
Ahmed said Governor Yusuf’s meeting with Dr Okonjo-Iweala during the event, and the shared perspectives that emerged from that engagement further underscored his resolve to translate his vision for Kano into concrete outcomes.
He also thanked Yusuf most sincerely for his continued support to Ahmadu Bello University over the years, stressing that the gesture placed him among the few Northern Governors who continued to honour and uphold the enduring legacy of the late Premier of Northern Nigeria.
The Premier of Northern Nigeria, Sir Ahmadu Bello, Sardauna of Sokoto, founded Ahmadu Bello University in 1962 as a pillar for regional and national development.
The Vice-Chancellor expressed confidence that the park when fully operational would serve as a strategic platform for nurturing start-ups, strengthening manufacturing value chains, and repositioning Kano as a hub of industrial renewal in Northern Nigeria.
Prof Ahmed expressed ABU’s readiness for continued collaboration with the Government of Kano State in the collective pursuit of economic transformation and shared prosperity.
The park is being built under a partnership agreement between Ahmadu Bello University and AMA Medical Manufacturing Company Ltd.
The partnership agreement was signed soon before the laying of the foundation stone of the park by the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, who stood in for ABU, and Chairman of AMA Medical Company, Prof Abdulsalam Nasidi, who represented the medical firm.
Founder of the medical giant Alhaji Abdullahi Musa Bello was at the groundbreaking event along with other key management staff of the company.
