NAPRI targets 30,000 bales of hay this season as pasture harvest still ongoing

The National Animal Protection Research Institute (NAPRI) is set to produce at least 30,000 bales of hay this season as the pasture harvest is still ongoing at the institute.

The pasture harvest, which commenced on 2nd December, 2025, is expected to be concluded by the end of January next year.

Pasture production is part of the national mandate of NAPRI as an animal research institute.

The ongoing pasture harvest at the institute is largely for digitaria and bracharia species.

NAPRI’s Head of Forage Production Unit, Mohammed Hamisu Abdul, who was met on the farm inspecting the production of the animal feeds, said the harvest was going on smoothly.

“As you can see, we are into hay production now. We have, so far, produced more than 7,000 bales of digitaria hay for animal feeds which we have conserved in the stores of the institute”, he said.

Abdul attributed the success recorded this season to the timely provision of enough fertilizer and the total overhaul of the institute’s tractors by NAPRI management.

He also linked the remarkable achievement to the cooperation of the coworkers who all came out for the work during the festive period.

Mohammed Hamisu Abdul explained that the target was to produce at least 30,000 bales of hay before the end of next year’s (2026) January.

He expressed optimism that the unit could double the feat next year if they would be supplied with six new tractors with implements by NAPRI management.

The head of hay production unit, therefore, appreciated the NAPRI management for the unwavering support to achieve the set target.

Abdul equally commended all staff of the three sections under the unit for their determination and hard work.
