ABU sports alumni call on VC, donate kits to alma mater

Members of Ahmadu Bello University Sports Alumni Association have donated sporting kits to the institution.

The donation was made when they called on the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed.

Briefing the Vice-Chancellor on the purpose of the visit, leader of the delegation, Mr. Yunana Midat, pointed out that their sporting ideas and talents were nurtured in ABU, hence their decision to come and give back to their alma mater.

So many of them, according to him, represented the university at different games at the Nigerian Universities Games Association (NUGA).

“That is why we have decided to come together and give back in the little way we could”, he also said.

Presenting the kits to the Vice-Chancellor, a member of the delegation, Mubdiu Mustapha, said they were at the university to present two sets of football jersey, eight footballs, eight basketballs, six volleyballs and five pumps as part of their contribution to sports development in the university.

Mustapha, who is the Chief Executive Officer of Zoomax Sports Ltd, further stated that they were also at the university to congratulate Prof Adamu Ahmed on his appointment as ABU Vice-Chancellor.

He described the Vice-Chancellor as a sportsman of international repute, who nurtured so many.

Also speaking, the President of Ahmadu Bello University Alumni Association Worldwide, Malam Adamu Mamman Kontagora, thanked the sports alumni association for the kind gesture.

Kontagora said during his days as a student, he played hockey for the university at NUGA and won a gold medal.

The President charged them to continue in that spirit and promised to always identify with them.

Responding, Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, thanked all of them for the generosity.

Prof Ahmed informed them that ABU had recently been chosen among sports centres of excellence in the country.

The Vice-Chancellor emphasized that sports was taking a new dimension these days, as the Federal Government had set up a technical committee to unbundle Physical and Health Education (PHE).

He assured the university sports community that ABU would have a better representation at subsequent NUGA games.

Prof Ahmed appreciated them and wished them journey mercies back to their respective destinations.
