Prof Birnin Kudu gives keynote address at ABU conference on electrical engineering applications
. Says bringing ease, longevity, and enjoyment for human species remains the purpose of technology
Prof Sabo Ibrahim Birnin Kudu was the keynote speaker at the 2nd International Conference on Electrical Engineering Applications (ICEEA) organized by the Department of Electrical Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The conference, ‘Electrical Engineering at the Core of Technological Advancement’, brought together researchers, industry experts, and critical stakeholders who brainstormed and discussed issues relating electrical engineering applications.
Birnin Kudu, who is the Vice-Chancellor, Federal University of Technology, Babura, Jigawa State, said the purpose of technological advancement was to bring ease, longevity, and enjoyment for the human species.
Represented by Prof Boyi Jimoh of the Department of Electrical Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Birnin Kudu also said “one of most significant advantages of technology is to boost efficiency of systems and processes.
“Technological advancement is a continuous process of innovation, improvement, and integration of new tools, technologies, and systems to enhance efficiency, productivity, and convenience in various fields”, he said.
Birnin Kudu listed invention, innovation, and diffusion as the basic stages for technological advancement.
He said electrical engineers were actively engaged in designing and implementing communication protocols, energy efficient devices, and robust security systems to facilitate seamless Internet of Things (IoT) integration.
“The field of electrical engineering is witnessing an era of unprecedented growth and innovation.
“Advancement in power, electronics, renewable energy, IoT, robotics, and nanotechnology are transforming various industries, improving quality of lives, and addressing global challenges”, he said.
In another keynote address, Associate Professor Firdaus Muhammad-Sukki of Edinburgh Napier University, UK, focused on the advancement of renewable energy.
Prof Sukki shared some successful researches that have significantly impacted on the fields of transportation and agriculture through solar energy.
Sukki, who emphasized on the need for more research in energy mobility, stressed that solar energy has the potential to contribute and satisfy the world energy needs.
Declaring the conference open, the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, commended the department for hosting the event.
The Vice-Chancellor, who was represented by the Dean, Faculty of Engineering, Prof J M Kaura, urged other departments to emulate them.
In an address of welcome, the Head of Department, Electrical Engineering, Ahmadu Bello University, Dr Adamu Saidu, thanked the participants for honouring the invitation.
This year’s conference, according to him, was to discuss and come up with solutions for contemporary problems as it related to the field of electrical engineering.
Dr Saidu, who prayed for fruitful deliberations, called on participants to look at areas of critical needs and challenges as they related to their fields.
In his remarks, the chairman of the occasion, Dr Sani Salisu, said the theme of the conference resonated deeply with the transformative impact electrical engineering has on modern society.
Salisu also said the conference was a representation of pioneers shaping the technological landscape.
Their efforts, according to him, enable efficient energy transmission and distribution, advanced communication systems, life changing medical devices, and secured data transmission systems.
He encouraged electrical engineers to continue pushing boundaries, driving innovation and harnessing their potential to create brighter and more sustainable future for all.
