Vc seeks Katsina support for ABU chemistry lab in memory of late President Yar’Adua
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has sought the support of Katsina State government for the renovation of the Central Chemistry Laboratory of the university.
He said the renovation of the facility would be in memory of the late President Umaru Musa Yar’Adua.
Prof Ahmed described the late President Yar’Adua as a shining example of what the Department of Chemistry of the university had produced.
The Vice-Chancellor made the request when he paid a courtesy call on Governor Dikko Umar Radda in Katsina today – Friday, 26th September, 2025.
Ahmed informed the governor, being a distinguished alumnus of the university, that ABU would be 63 years old on 4th October, 2025.
“Your Excellency, as one of our most distinguished alumni, we considered it important to notify you personally. At 63, and despite numerous challenges, Ahmadu Bello University continues to thrive.
“Only this year, 2025, we were ranked the best public university in Nigeria by the Times Higher Education. Similarly, JAMB named us the best public university in Nigeria”, he said.
The Vice-Chancellor further requested the governor’s support in upgrading a few of ABU road networks in commemoration of its 63rd anniversary.
Ahmed told Governor Radda that indignes of Katsina State had continued to make tremendous contributions to the progress of the university.
He also said it was a source of pride to ABU that several members of Governor Radda’s cabinet were distinguished alumni of the university.
He particularly cited the continued support of Dr Faisal Umar Kaita, the Hon Commissioner, Lands and Physical Planning, who continued to serve the university through research partnerships and student supervision.
Prof Ahmed further appreciated the governor for sustaining the legacies of support that the late President Yar’Adua graciously extended to the university during his lifetime.
“In your own stride, you have not only sustained these legacies but also have further deepened them. You have consistently met the university at its point of need, sometimes even making donations without being asked”, he stressed.
The Vice-Chancellor said the university remained proud of Governor Radda’s leadership and prayed for his success in office.
Responding, His Excellency, Dikko Umar Radda, Governor of Katsina State, pledged to look into the university requests for appropriate intervention.
Governor Radda stressed that all ABU alumni must really support for the university to continue to maintain its high standards which it was known for.
The governor expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and his team members for the visit and wished them safe return to Zaria.
