ICD President commissions ABU Academy of Dental Implantology
President of the International College of Dentists (ICD) Dr Ian Doyle has commissioned the Nigerian Academy of Dental Implantology (NADI) at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria.
The academy, domiciled at the Faculty of Dentistry, was sponsored by the International Postgraduate Medical College (IPMC), Jamaica.
It was commissioned inside the Faculty of Dentistry at Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital (ABUTH), Zaria on Wednesday, 24th September, 2025.



















Facilities at the dental school include three implants machines, four dental implantology training repositories, and MSD I advanced surgical kits.
Other instruments and equipment at the dental academy are 30 dental implant abutments, 25 dental implants, and two hand piece (contraangle).
Commissioning the facility, the President, International College of Dentists, Dr Ian Doyle, stressed that today implantology was important all over the world.
He expressed satisfaction with the facilities at the centre and thanked the university as well as IPMC for inviting him to commission the facility.
The President, International Postgraduate Medical College (IPMC), Prof Christopher Ogunsalu, said his dream was to ensure that the dental school could at the long run sustain its itself.
Prof Ogunsalu also stressed that it was his hope that the academy would reach the top with the support and determination of ABU College of Medical Sciences.
The IPMC boss expressed appreciation to the Vice-Chancellor and the university for the opportunity to contribute to the establishment of the dental school.
He wished the first set of dental students whom he described as “risktakers”all the best in their academic journey.
Ogunsalu, an oral and maxillofacial surgeon, was instrumental to the establishment of the dental academy.
He donated three dental implantology training repositories and other advanced implant kits worth over 18,000 US dollars to the academy.
In his remarks at the occasion, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof Adamu Ahmed, who described the moment as amazing, assured that the university would keep on equipping the centre.
Ahmed expressed immense appreciation to both Dr Ian Doyle and Prof Christopher Ogunsalu for the remarkable gesture.
Both the Provost, ABU College of Medical Sciences, Prof M S Shehu; and Dean, Faculty of Dentistry, Prof Sunday Olusegun Ajike, spoke at the occasion.
They acknowledged with gratitude the tremendous support the IPMC president gave towards the establishment of the dental school.
They also thanked the ICD President, Dr Ian Doyle and his wife, Mrs Anne Doyle, for coming all the way from the US to commission the facility.
Shortly after the facility commissioning, the three important university guests were conveyed to the Emir’s Palace where they paid homage to His Highness, Malam Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, CFR, the Emir of Zazzau.
In the evening of that day the Department of Theatre and Performing Arts hosted the guests to three unique artistic performances.
The performances, which took place at ABU Drama Village, were masterfully delivered by students of the department who exhibited deep sense of professionalism.
It was indeed a night of thrills, laughs, and excitement as the students presentation was both engaging and educational, highlighting social realities while also showcasing Nigeria’s cultural diversity.
