Vice-Chancellor visits ABU staff residential quarters, expresses worry over dilapidation
The Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof Adamu Ahmed, has expressed concerns over dilapidation of the institution’s residential quarters.
Prof Ahmed expressed the worry when he paid visits to junior staff residential houses at Silver, Quarter II, and Quarter III at the weekend.
The visit started at 8am on Saturday with Silver Quarters as his first port of call.
Silver has a total of 200 houses, Quarter II 144, and Quarter III 147.
After going round the residential houses at Silver, he now moved to Quarter III and Quarter II respectively.
In all the three residential areas visited, he was warmly received by the residents who described the visit as the ‘first of its kind’.
Prof Ahmed heard all the residents’ complaints which centred largely on leaking roofs, acute water shortage, dilapidated roads, toilet facilities, and security.
To tackle acute water shortage at Silver, it was recommended that two industrial boreholes should be drilled for the area.
The Vice-Chancellor asked the Physical Planning and Municipal Services (PPMS) to compile all the complaints for appropriate action.
Visibly worried by the bad condition of toilet facilities at Quarter II, the Vice-Chancellor directed the PPMS to assess the situation for immediate action.
The residents expressed gratitude to Prof Ahmed for the concern and wished him God’s guidance in discharging his official responsibilities.
The Vice-Chancellor was accompanied on the visits by Director, Physical Planning and Municipal Services, Arc Suleiman Mohammed; and Director, Public Affairs, Auwalu Umar.
Others on the Vice-Chancellor’s entourage were Head, Bulk Metering Unit, Engr Ahmed Rufai Abubakar; and Head, University Water Section, Engr Hussaini Ismail.
