ABU appreciates Aliero, Mu’azu, others for donating N45m to alma mater
Ahmadu Bello University has expressed profound appreciation to the former governors of Kebbi and Bauchi States, Alhaji Adamu Aliero and Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, respectively, as well as other alumni of the institution for donating N45 million for renovation of dilapidated infrastructure in the university.
The amount was raised during the first reunion party by Ahmadu Bello University’s School of Basic Studies (SBS) Class of 1976/1977 held in Abuja last month, 48 years after graduation.
Both Aliero and Mu’azu, who donated N20 million each at the historic event, were Class members of the once famous school.
A letter to the Chairman of SBS Class of 1976/1977 Ambassador Rabiu Dogari by the Vice-Chancellor, Ahmadu Bello University, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, conveying the institution’s immense gratitude to members of the class for the remarkable support and generosity, described the gesture as inspiring.
The Vice-Chancellor said the University was excited to witness the coming together of the Class nearly five decades after graduation to “reconnect, celebrate shared memories, and most importantly, to give back to the institution” that shaped their formative years.
“The generous donation of N45 million raised at the event stands as a powerful testament to your enduring commitment to the values and vision of Ahmadu Bello University.
“Your contribution will go a long way in enhancing the academic environment for current and future students, and it exemplifies the transformative impact that dedicated alumni can have on their alma mater”, he said.
Prof. Ahmed also said the university was indeed proud of the Class accomplishments and it was happy to count them among the distinguished alumni of the institution.
The Vice-Chancellor further said the university would look forward to continued commitment with members of the Class in addition to working together in advancing the institution’s mission.
At the maiden reunion party of the SBS Class of 1976/1977 held in Abuja on 9th May, 2025, Aliero, a Senator representing Kebbi Central at the National Assembly, acknowledged that times had changed and that government was now facing numerous challenges, including educational funding constraints.
The former governor explained that he made the contribution towards rehabilitation of some of the educational structures in ABU as the Chairman of the SBS Class of 1976/1977 went round and saw a lot of dilapidated buildings in the university.
Aliero, who called on other classmates to also contribute generously towards the project, said his own personal donation was N20 million and that former governor of Bauchi State, Alhaji Ahmadu Adamu Mu’azu, would match it up with another N20 million.
In his remarks, Mu’azu said the Class was hugely blessed as the set produced governors, ministers and senators and challenged youths to take up leadership positions.
Sarkin Karshi Alhaji Mohammed Ismaila, who is an alumnus of the institution, called for a more structured alumni network and to leverage them to support institutions of higher learning.
The Class Chairman, Ambassador Rabiu Dogari, who gave a keynote address at the reunion party, urged members of the Class to contribute both financially and intellectually to ongoing restoration efforts.
