Chronicling hundreds of insightful stories about the life of ABU students, as told by ABU students.

Students of ABU is a platform (“the platform”) created by the Web Management Unit (“WMU”) on the official website of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria (“the University”) to tell hundreds of insightful stories about the real life of ABU students, as told by real ABU students. The platform is designed to afford all categories of ABU students the opportunity to tell their insightful stories about their challenges and their triumphs as they experience life in a University setting (and even beyond, perhaps). Stories may be told on a wide variety of themes including, but not limited to, “Mothers Pursuing Degrees”, “Coping with Carry-Overs”, “Sports Life”, “Final-Year Struggles”, “The Entrepreneurial Spirit of ABUsites” and many more.

The stories are expected to evoke a wide range of positive emotions from readers: we expect the stories to evoke feelings of inspiration, feelings of love, feelings of courage, feelings of empathy, feelings of honour, feelings of camaraderie, feelings of responsibility, feelings of community, and many more positive feelings that make us human and humane.

TERMS AND POLICIES

The WMU provides the platform to you subject to the terms and policies set forth in this document (“Terms and Policies”). When you submit your stories or agree to allow Staff of the Web Management Unit to collect, process and publish your stories on the platform, you willingly agree and consent to the following Terms and Policies governing your consent:

  1. Your eligibility to have your story accepted or published on the platform is first and foremost contingent upon meeting the following conditions:

    • You are a duly registered and active student of the University.

    • Your story can be independently verified by WMU or her affiliates to ascertain its authenticity.

    • Your story must rather be a positive one. It shall not be, or have the potential to be, seen as scandalous, defamatory, libelous or in any way capable of bringing about discord or negative feelings.

    • Your story should rather be your own story than another person’s story. In other words, the story directly revolves about you rather than another person.

  2. You further agree and consent that if your story is accepted for publication, the WMU editorial team may, at any time, and without prior notice, revoke and/or cancel your story if it is found not to be in your own interest or in the best interest of the University to publish your story.

  3. In telling your story, you must act responsibly and exercise good judgment. Without limiting the foregoing, you will not tell your story in such a way that:

    • Any local, state, provincial, national, or other law or regulation, or any order of a court, will be violated.

    • The rights of any person or entity, including without limitation, their intellectual property, privacy, publicity or contractual rights will be infringed.

    • By submitting your story online through the platform, you will not interfere with or damage our Services, including, without limitation, through the use of viruses, cancel bots, Trojan horses, harmful code, flood pings, denial-of-service attacks, packet or IP spoofing, forged routing or similar methods or technology.

  4. Neither the WMU nor the University charge you money to submit your stories for publication or read stories on the platform. You agree that you shall not pay, or allow yourself to be induced to pay, any money to anybody in order to have your story featured on the platform.

  5. We do not sell your personal data to advertisers, and we do not share information that directly identifies you (such as your full names or photo) on the platform unless you give us specific permission. You agree that you have given us full consent to publish your story along with your name, programme of study, level of study and campus of location subject to our editorial quality policy. If you do not wish to be fully identified, you agree that the WMU Staff can publish only your surname and initials and your photo could be shot in such a manner that your identity is not revealed.

  6. Neither the WMU nor the University pays you money or otherwise give you any special, preferential or gratuitous favours when your stories are published on the platform. You agree that you shall not ask the WMU or the University to pay you, or cause any individual, body, organization or entity, to ask the WMU or University to pay you for publishing your story on the platform either now or at any time in the future, even if your story does bring revenue or other incentives to the University now or in the future.

  7. All text, graphics, files, photos, videos and materials contained in your story automatically become the sole property of the University irrespective of whether they are published or not. You agree and consent that you shall relinquish all copyright claims once your story has been submitted to the WMU.

  8. The WMU editorial team reserves the right to edit your story in such a way as to make it suitable for publication on the platform. To this extent, you agree and consent that the editorial team has the freedom to shorten your original story, change a few words or sentences to improve readability, structure and context.
