The CBT approach has both advantages and disadvantages. For me, I see one of the most obvious disadvantage of it in lack of proper sticking to time. You see, this test we are having now was scheduled for 8 o’clock but it is well after 10am now. Had it been a written test or PBT, we would have taken this test and gone by now. You know, it is not just the wasting of time, but you know delays can cause stress for the students thereby leading to higher failure rates.
Somebody may want to be here and write the exam or test as early as possible so that they can go and rest and prepare for another thing. Like we have been here since 8am to take this test but it has not yet commenced. You can see that some of us are trying to revise, but the majority are tired and just sitting around and gisting as we wait for the assessment to commence. By the time they call us in now most of us are already really stressed you know... even what we have read would have been forgotten. So this kind of delay is a major disadvantage of conducting exams the CBT way.
If we go to the advantages of CBT, I think it is possible for someone who is not well-prepared to just do blind trial-and-error in choosing the answers and that person might end up scoring higher than someone who had really prepared for the assessment. That is my opinion sha. But seriously, the disadvantages need to be seriously looked into. Thank you.
