PCN INDUCTS 28 ABU GRADUATES IN TO THE PHARMACY PROFESSION

The Pharmacist Council of Nigeria has Monday 28th October 2019 inducted 28 Graduates of Ahmadu Bello University in to the Pharmacy Profession.

The induction ceremony held at PA ISHAKU lecture theatre, Faculty of Pharmaceutical science, ABU Samaru, Zaria.

In his speech, the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University who was represented by the Provost of the College of Medical Sciences,Ahmadu Bello University Prof. Balarabe Sani Garko charged the newly inductees to assist in helping every human being they come across, knowing that they are going to deal with people who have ill health, and their prayers matters here and hereafter. 

 In his welcome address the Dean of the Faculty of Pharmaceutical sciences of ABU Zaria, Prof. Nuhu Mohammed Danjuma intensified that Pharmacy is of service to humanity, and charged the newly inductees to be of service to humanity.

The Dean further added that, the Pharmacy profession is a noble work that requires every pharmacist to be kind to mankind, He further advised the graduands to be good ambassadors of the School of Pharmacy of Ahmadu Bello University and the council. He further added that the lecturers gave all the necessary ingredients to the newly Pharmacist.

In his speech, the registrar of the Pharmacist Council of Nigeria Pharmacist N.A Mohammed who was represented by the Zonal officer Northwest zone of PCN Pharmacist Abubakar Dattijo express that this was the 28th induction ceremony at ABU for the graduands of Pharmacy degree from the Faculty of Pharmaceutical science of Ahmadu Bello University,Zaria.

The PCN Registrar further noted that Technological Advancement, Drug Reaction, Drug Resistance among other are the major challenges in the practice of Pharmacy Profession in Nigeria. He further added that the PCN has institutionalised the Continuing Professional Development Program CPD to ensure the contineos relevance of the Pharmacist in the health sector and governance in general.

The registrar further charged the new Pharmacist on Competency, Critical thinking and decision making, Innovation, and social interaction, Leadership skills and development, and inter-professional relationship.

He further informed the graduands and all the pharmacists that free registration examination for Pharmacist PEP has commence in Nigeria.

Meanwhile, the PCN  registrar warned the newly pharmacist about strict compliance of the ethics of pharmacy profession which prescribe the professional and moral responsibilities to the patients, pharmacist colleagues, other health professionals, employers and the general public, He also added that any form of misconduct by any pharmacist is usually investigated by the PCN investigating panel and if the pharmacist have a case to answer he/she will be referred to the desplinary tribunal which has the status of the Federal High Court in Nigeria and if found guilty, Sentences like removal of the pharmacist name from the pharmaceutical register for given period could be done. 

One of the graduands, Usman Abubakar Dauda, thanks the almighty god for making their dreams in to reality, and also thank the University management, lecturers, parents and well wishers.

Members of the high table includes Prof B.O. Olayinka,the HOD Pharmaceutical Biology, Dr. A.K Olosulu, the HOD Department of Pharmaceutical and Industrial Pharmacy, Dr. Aminu Musa the HOD, Pharmaceutical and Medicinal Chemistry, Prof. S. Mohammed  the HOD Clinical Pharmacy and Pharmacy Practice,Prof. A.U Zezi of the department of Pharmacology among others.
