The Department of Botany and the Department of Zoology of Ahmadu Bello University has collaborated on a joint hands-on workshop on MICROSCOPY, BIOLOGICAL SLIDE PREPARATION AND PHOTOMICROGRAPHY.
The opening ceremony of the workshop held on Monday, 2nd March, 2020 at the Assembly Hall,Main Campus, Samaru. The workshop is expected to start from 1st and ends on 6th March, 2020.
Earliar in his remarks,the Acting Vice chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University, Prof.Danladi Amodu Ameh, commended the two department and called-on other department to collaborate on areas that are of interest to them.
Prof. Ameh also described the workshop as timely, "I'm delighted that we have experts on this area that are willing to collaborate with each other ".
The V.C further assured that Ahmadu Bello University will always play its roles and give its maximum support to units and departments willing to collaborate.
Earliar,The dean Faculty of Life Science who was represented by the deputy dean,Prof. Maryam Aminu commended the two departments for coming together with similar area that will benefit the faculty, ABU and the country at large.
In his speech,one of the plenary speakers, Prof. S.J. Oniye of the department of Zoology mentioned the importance of Microscopy and Photomicrography in Teaching and Research.
In his speech Dr. S.J. Sambo of the department of Veterinary Pathology,called-on the Utilization of Biological Slides in Research and Diagnosis in institutions.
The workshop target groups are the academics, technologists and post graduate students of Biological sciences,Veterinary Medicine, Pharmaceutical science,and Basic Medical Sciences of research institutions and Teaching Hospitals.
Some of the Objectives of the Workshop are to train the participants on;
1. Basic plant and animal anatomy
2. Ethics of Biological sample collection and presentation
3. Principles of Microtomy and Photomicrography
4. Processing of Plant and animal specimens for Microcopy
