ABU’s decision to honour me a true reflection of its recognition for selfless service to humanity – Col. Sani Bello (Rtd)
Former Military Governor of old Kano State Col. Sani Bello (Rtd) says the decision by Ahmadu Bello University to award him an honorary doctorate degree is a true reflection of the institution’s recognition for selfless service to humanity.
The University had at its 42nd/Diamond Jubilee Convocation last week conferred the Doctor of Science (Honoris Causa) on Col. Sani Bello along with two others – Alhaji Muhammadu Inuwa Jibo, Doctor of Letters (Honoris Causa), and Hajiya Fatima Lami Usman Kurfi, Doctor of Education (Honoris Causa).
Col. Sani Bello became a successful businessman after a distinguished career in both the Military and Diplomacy.
The military governor, who sent in a five-member delegation to ABU today to formally convey his sincere appreciation to the Council, Senate and Management for honouring him, described the recognition as a source of inspiration.
Col. Bello also said that ABU’s “unwavering commitment” to recognizing individuals, who had made significant contributions to the development of their community, nation and humanity in general, was a testimony to its encouragement for education, philanthropy and selfless service.
He explained that the warm hospitality granted him and his entourage during the Convocation by the staff of the University was exceptional.
“It made us feel welcomed, appreciated, and it greatly contributed to the success of the event and made it a memorable experience for everyone that attended.
“I, therefore, cannot thank you enough for this recognition. I would like to extend my deepest gratitude to you, the management and staff of the University for making this event a success. I am proud to be associated with such a distinguished institution as yours,” he also said.
The delegation to the University was led by Chairman, Jos Electricity Distribution Company, Alhaji Babangida Inuwa.
Others on the delegation are Brigadier-General Muhammad Kabir Galadanchi (Rtd), Ambassador Ahmed Mohammed Musawa, Alhaji Ahmed Shuaib, and Malam Mouktar Sirajo.
Responding, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Administration, Prof. Ahmed Doko Ibrahim, who stood in for the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Kabir Bala, stressed that the University was really excited over the visit.
Prof. Doko, who announced the decision of the University Management for a return visit to the former military governor, disclosed that the University was studying his acceptance speech at the Convocation with a view to giving it a maximum attention.
“We would conduct a research on some of the issues raised in his speech at the Convocation, especially the lingering almajiri problem in the North,” he said.
