ABU, others represent Africa at Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global finals

Six students from Ahmadu Bello University were among the nine students selected from three Nigerian universities that made up Team Nigeria which represented Africa at the Huawei ICT Skills Competition Global finals held virtually on Saturday, 7th November, 2020. 

The others included two drawn from University of Ibadan and one picked from University of Port Harcourt. 

The students from Ahmadu Bello University included Mustapha Abdullahi Jimoh (Department of Computer Engineering), Abdullahi Mohammed Khalifa (Department of Electrical Engineering) and Dahir Muhammad Dahir (Department of Computer Engineering). 

They also included Hamza Adenoyi Atabor (Department of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering), Hamza Beita (Department of Electrical Engineering) and Emmanuel Abba (Department of Electronics and Telecommunications Engineering). 

Those from University of Ibadan were Toheeb Adeniyi Badiru and Bolaji Olaide Abideen while Anthony O. Ugheoke was from University of Port Harcourt. 

The official award ceremony is scheduled to hold in China virtually on Saturday, 14th November, 2020. 

Nigerian dignitaries including Minister of Communication, Dr. Isa Ali Pantami and his counterpart from Education, Malam Adamu Adamu as well as a host of others will be expected to converge at the Huawei head office in Nigeria, Abuja for the virtual award ceremony. 

The Nigerian contingents comprised three teams, namely Cloud/AI Track, Network Track (Team A) and Network Track (Team B). 

It would be recalled that the three teams had qualified to represent Nigeria at the Africa Regional finals that took place virtually on 10th and 11th September, 2020 featuring teams from 15 countries. 

And this qualified them to represent Africa alongside South Africa, Uganda and Tanzania at the global finals.
