The Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria (ABU) in line with its vision and commitments to effective coordination, streamlining, monitoring and evaluation of the Academic Development Processes. The Directorate (DAPM) which is under the office of the Vice-Chancellor, serve as a focal point of liaison with the National Universities Commission with regard to institutional and national policies on higher education as well as the Quality Control Unit of the University. The Directorate assists and advises the Vice-Chancellor on matters relating to the Academic Planning, Quality Assurance and Accreditation of the University by Governmental and non-governmental agencies. For the purposes of Planning, Quality Assurance and Accreditation, it liaises with other Units of the University to engage Government Ministries, Foreign Governments and Foundations to leverage the resources of such international bodies for the academic development of the University.

History

The Unit was previously known as Academic Planning Unit, however, during the restructuring and reorganization exercise in the University in 1997, the Unit was upgraded to a full fledged directorate and renamed Directorate of Academic Planning and Monitoring (DAPM). It is the quality assurance organ of the University under the Vice-Chancellor’s office. It has the mandate of monitoring and ensuring effective teaching/learning and research activities in the University.

Mandates

  1. Provision of leadership for the academic planning processes and the preparation and revision of University academic brief.

  2. Develop definitions and criteria for use in academic planning processes and resource management, and updating or adjusting plans to fiscal realities.

  3. Co-ordination of academic, research and outreach programmes of the University.

Quality Assurance Unit

The unit is to provide guidance to all the departments and faculties in all planning matters. These includes project development, implementation monitoring and evaluation, academic programmes planning, especially the assessment of economic recurrent implications of all new programmes as well as existing programmes, thereby appraising them for determining their viability, determination of optimal establishments for effective teaching and guiding the process of market analysis among others.

Academic Planning Unit

Data Management And Analysis Unit

The aims and objectives of the Data Management and Analysis unit are to provide a range of accurate infomation to the University for Planning And managerial decission-making, produces a range of institutional statistics and undertakes data manipulation, analysis and interpretation to convert raw data into useful management information. Compile and analyse statistical data for use in general planning, strategic and analysis planning, budgeting, database on various aspect of the university operations, sundry management requirement and repository.
